The American Community Survey (ACS), conducted annually by the U.S. Census Bureau, provides detailed demographic, social, economic, and housing data at the individual and household level for communities across the United States. It is the primary source for data on income, employment, commuting, education, and housing at fine geographic levels. Used in Oberfield et al. (2024, Journal of Political Economy) to characterise the spatial distribution of workers and economic activity across U.S. locations as part of the analysis of firm plant location decisions.
